You are always dearly missed by everybody! Happy 74th Birthday to Kenney Jones today! Kenney Jones was born on this date September 16, 1948 in Whitechapel, London, England. (It was a Thursday!) Drummer for Small Faces, Faces, The Who and The Jones Gang, Kenney Jones was a great mate of Ronnie Lane. Pete Townshend & Ronnie Lane's "Rough Mix" Album Released 45 Years Ago Today, September 16, 19779/16/2022 Released September 16, 1977, Pete Townshend and Ronnie Lane's Rough Mix album turns 45 years old today! Pete Townshend had been initially contacted by Ronnie Lane to produce his next album. Instead, the project turned into a full-blown collaboration between the pair. Rough Mix features songs written by both blokes in a vein less like that of the Who or Faces, but instead close to the British folk rock vogue of the early 1970s among various English bands.
Members of Lane's Slim Chance group and other colleagues also appeared on the recording, among them Who bassist John Entwistle, Ian Stewart and Charlie Watts from The Rolling Stones, and Eric Clapton. During the recording of Rough Mix, Lane's multiple sclerosis was diagnosed, but still not revealed generally. Hustle yourself here to find links to listen to Rough Mix and the beloved song favorites "Annie", "Heart To Hang On To", "Street in the City", "Nowhere To Run", "My Baby Gives It Away", "April Fool" and five other steller tunes. Here also are stellar reviews and a secret stash of Martin Cook's photo shoot for the album

Written by Steve Marriott and Ronnie Lane, "All Or Nothing", according to Marriott's mother Kay Marriott, is about Steve's split with ex-fiancée Sue Oliver, though first wife Jenny Rylance states that Marriott told her he wrote the song for her as a result of her split with Rod Stewart. Both statements are said to be correct. Little known fact: "All Or Nothing" shared the #1 spot that week with The Beatles' single "Yellow Submarine"! Small Faces' single "The Universal" is released June 28, 1968 "The Universal" was the final authorized single released by Small Faces before they disbanded in 1969 ~"The Universal" reached #16, staying in the top 40 for a total of 10 weeks ~A densely-lyrical song, the basic track of Marriott alone with an acoustic guitar was originally recorded by him 'on-the-fly' onto a portable tape machine, outdoors in his garden with his dog Seamus Have a listen to "The Universal" and read more here: https://www.ronnielane.com/small-faces-single-the-universal-1968.html Hello the Universal!

https://www.ronnielane.com/small-faces-video-performances-on-beat-club-youtube.html Fifty-five years ago today, June 23, 1967, Small Faces released their second studio album Small Faces, the band's first for the Immediate record label. Not to be confused with Small Faces' first studio album Small Faces (1966) released on Decca Records, Small Faces (1967) album is considered to be the artistic breakthrough for the group in terms of songwriting and composition, and marks their transition from a mod-influenced blue-eyed soul/R&B band to a psychedelic studio group, which they were then seen as from this point until their breakup in early 1969. During the later parts of 1966, their affiliation with Don Arden and Decca Records had strained, due to several aspects, including the fact that the band received barely any royalties from their records, and that "My Mind's Eye" had been released without consent by the band.
From Kenney Jones, "During the Decca period most of the self-penned stuff was 99% Steve. It wasn’t until Immediate that Ronnie became more involved. The first Immediate album is made up of 50% Steve’s songs and 50% of Ronnie’s..." Fifty-five years ago today, May 26, 1967, Small Faces single "Patterns" was released by the band's manager Don Arden, NOT authorized by the band. "Patterns" was the eighth single by Small Faces and the first of two unauthorized singles released in the UK (the second being "Afterglow (of Your Love)" in 1969). "Patterns" became one of few singles by Small Faces featuring Ronnie Lane on primary vocals, in contrast to Marriott's standard role as lead vocalist. https://www.ronnielane.com/small-faces-single-patterns-1967.html On This Day In Small Faces History, May 24, 1968: "Ogdens' Nutgone Flake" Album Is Released5/24/2022 Fifty-four years ago today, May 24, 1968 (it was a Friday!), Small Faces' album Ogdens' Nut Gone Flake was released! Small Faces' third (and final) studio album and their first concept album, Ogdens' Nutgone Flake featured an innovative round cover. Widely regarded as a classic album, it was the first of its kind, designed to resemble an antique tobacco tin. The title and the design of the distinctive packaging was a parody of Ogden's Nut-brown Flake, a brand of tobacco that was produced in Liverpool from 1899 onwards by Thomas Ogden. Watch the one-time-only Small Faces theatrical performance of this amazing concept album on the BBC's Colour Me Pop (25:52), featuring: "Song of a Baker", "Lazy Sunday" (official video!), "Happiness Stan", "Rollin' Over", "The Hungry Intruder", "The Journey", "Mad John" and "Happydaystoytown", narrated by Master of Gobbledegook, Stanley Unwin! https://www.ronnielane.com/small-faces-ogdens-nut-gone-flake-album-1968.html Ogdens' LP would peak at number one on the UK Album Charts on June 29th, 1968, where it remained for a total of six weeks. "Just a little pop song." ~Ian McLagan, keyboardist of Small Faces The band's fourth single, released this day May 6, 1966, "Hey Girl" was the first hit single written exclusively by Small Faces (Steve Marriott and Ronnie Lane). B-side "Almost Grown "Hey Girl" was released just days before the album Small Faces - Small Faces (1966) was released. Ultimately it was not included and can instead be found on their 1967 compilation album From the Beginning. The "Hey Girl" single made its chart start at No.23. Within two weeks, it was starting a two-week stay at No.10, while Small Faces enjoyed no fewer than five consecutive weeks at No.3. The LP spent 12 weeks in a row in the Top 10, through to August. Amelia Earhart’s Last Flight 9. Anymore For Anymore 10. Only A Bird In A Gilded Cage 11. Chicken Wired Many fans know Ronnie Lane for his celebrated songwriter with both his previous bands Small Faces and Faces. He’s the genius behind such iconic songs such as “Ooh La La,” “Itchycoo Park,” “All Or Nothing,” “Tin Soldier,” “Annie” and “Debris.” However, after tiring of the rock and roll world that had come to engulf and consume both bands, Lane decided to go solo, leaving behind London’s East End and taking his family and musician friends with him for a new life in the country. Ronnie Lane & Slim Chance "The Poacher" Live on LWT's Supersonic Originally released in July 1974 and recorded at his newly acquired ‘Fishpool’ farm in Wales, Anymore For Anymore saw Ronnie’s music embrace country, folk, bluegrass, music hall, soul and rhythm & blues to spellbinding effect. The album reached No.48 on the UK album chart, while single “The Poacher” peaked at No.36. Despite the modest chart position, the album has grown in stature since release. Widely considered his best solo outing, and championed by the likes of Pete Townshend, Noel & Liam Gallagher, Paul Weller, and Jimmy Page, it’s an album now established as a “must-have” for any serious music lover, recognized as one of the great artistic records of the 1970s. We've been waiting a looooong time! Cheers!

Ronnie Lane had a few best mates and stellar keyboardist of Small Faces and Faces, Ian McLagan, just happened to be one of them. Ian Mclagan was born May 12, 1945 and passed away December 3, 2014 at 69 years old.
