Released September 16, 1977, Pete Townshend and Ronnie Lane's
Rough Mix album turns 45 years old today!

Pete Townshend had been initially contacted by Ronnie Lane
to produce his next album. Instead, the project turned into
a full-blown collaboration between the pair.
Rough Mix features songs written by both blokes in a vein less like
that of the Who or Faces, but instead close to the British folk rock vogue
of the early 1970s among various English bands.

On September 15, 1966 the Small Faces' single "All Or Nothing"
peaks at #1 on the UK Singles Chart!
Small Faces - All Or Nothing Single 1966 -US2
Small Faces - All Or Nothing Single 1966 -US2
Written by Steve Marriott and Ronnie Lane, "All Or Nothing", according to Marriott's mother Kay Marriott, is about Steve's split with ex-fiancée Sue Oliver, though first wife Jenny Rylance states that Marriott told her he wrote the song for her as a result of her split with Rod Stewart. Both statements are said to be correct.
Little known fact: "All Or Nothing" shared the #1 spot that week with
The Beatles' single "Yellow Submarine"!

Small Faces ~ "Small Faces" 1967 Album Released June 23, 1967, 55 Years Ago Today!

Fifty-five years ago today, June 23, 1967, Small Faces released their second studio album Small Faces, the band's first for the Immediate record label.
Small Faces - Small Faces album 1967 - front cover
Small Faces - Small Faces album 1967 - front cover
Not to be confused with Small Faces' first studio album Small Faces (1966) released on Decca Records, Small Faces (1967) album is considered to be the artistic breakthrough for the group in terms of songwriting and composition, and marks their transition from a mod-influenced blue-eyed soul/R&B band to a psychedelic studio group, which they were then seen as from this point until their breakup in early 1969.
During the later parts of 1966, their affiliation with Don Arden and Decca Records had strained, due to several aspects, including the fact that the band received barely any royalties from their records, and that "My Mind's Eye" had been released without consent by the band.
Vocal duty on the album is more varied than on their debut album, where Marriott sang ten of the twelve tracks. On Small Faces 1967, Lane assumes lead vocals on four songs, with Marriott singing lead on six. McLagan sings his sole composition "Up the Wooden Hills to Bedfordshire". Marriott and Lane share lead vocals on "Green Circles" and "Become Like You" while the remaining track "Happy Boys Happy" is an instrumental.

From Kenney Jones, "During the Decca period most of the self-penned stuff was 99% Steve. It wasn’t until Immediate that Ronnie became more involved. The first Immediate album is made up of 50% Steve’s songs and 50% of Ronnie’s..."

Widely regarded as a classic album, it was the first of its kind,
designed to resemble an antique tobacco tin.

The title and the design of the distinctive packaging was a parody of Ogden's Nut-brown Flake, a brand of tobacco that was produced in Liverpool from 1899 onwards by Thomas Ogden.
Side one of the album is a mix of early heavy rock.
Side two of the LP is based on an original fairy tale about
a boy called Happiness Stan, narrated by Stanley Unwin in his
unique "Unwinese" gobbledegook.

Many fans know Ronnie Lane for his celebrated songwriter with both his previous bands Small Faces and Faces. He’s the genius behind such iconic songs such as “Ooh La La,” “Itchycoo Park,” “All Or Nothing,” “Tin Soldier,” “Annie” and “Debris.” However, after tiring of the rock and roll world that had come to engulf and consume both bands, Lane decided to go solo, leaving behind London’s East End and taking his family and musician friends with him for a new life in the country.
Ronnie Lane & Slim Chance "The Poacher" Live on LWT's Supersonic
Originally released in July 1974 and recorded at his newly acquired ‘Fishpool’ farm in Wales, Anymore For Anymore saw Ronnie’s music embrace country, folk, bluegrass, music hall, soul and rhythm & blues to spellbinding effect. The album reached No.48 on the UK album chart, while single “The Poacher” peaked at No.36. Despite the modest chart position, the album has grown in stature since release.
