From The Desk Of Leslie C.
Ronnie Lane Fan for over 50 years! "Are you familiar with the location (outside a store called Ditzingers) in the black and white video of the Small Faces no.1, All Or Nothing? I think I've tracked it down to the northwest corner of a square in Stockholm called Norrmalmstorg. I was able to do this through a 1964 photo of the location on a Swedish website. URL:
https://stockholmskallan.stockholm.se/post/29166. You can just see part of the Ditzingers sign in the background of the photo. The boys would have been standing more or less under the tall lamp post (or whatever it is) - I think the wheel part of the "lamp post" appears in the video at the very start. You can compare the Svenska Liv building in the 1964 photo with the building there to this day in Street View. |
My starting point was some Swedish people commenting on Youtube that Swedish TV back then often got visiting bands to mime outdoors for their videos and they also say it was at Norrmalmstorg. Ditzingers was
apparently a soft furnishings store, but has either moved or gone out of business. The "modern" office building you see behind Ian in the video was Lufthansa offices at the time."

"All or Nothing" (Small Faces song)
Released as a single August 5, 1966, "All or Nothing" was written by Steve Marriott and Ronnie Lane of the British rock band Small Faces.
"All Or Nothing" hit the UK Singles Chart August 17, 1966 and peaked at # 1 on September 15, 1966.
The song was also a major hit in both the Netherlands, where it reached number two and Ireland, where it reached number three. It was also the first song by the Small Faces to chart in the Republic of Ireland, as "Whatcha Gonna Do About It", "Sha-La-La-La-Lee" and "Hey Girl" all failed to do so.
According to Kay Marriott, Steve's mother, Steve wrote this song about his split with ex-fiancée Sue Oliver, though first wife Jenny Rylance states that Marriott told her he wrote the song for her as a result of her split with Rod Stewart. Both statements are said to be correct.
"All Or Nothing" was recorded at IBC Studios in Portland Place, London and appears on the Decca album
From the Beginning. A live version is found on the BBC Sessions album.

Following Steve Marriott's death in a house fire in 1991, the song was played as the requiem at his funeral.
The song appeared in the soundtrack for the 2010 film Made in Dagenham. Nigel Cole's film is a dramatisation of the 1968 Ford sewing machinists strike at Ford Dagenham, where female workers protested against sexual discrimination and for equal pay.
The song is used as the theme tune (over the opening credits) on the 2012 BBC UK TV series, The Syndicate, about a group of lottery winners. Swedish pop band Tages did one of the earliest versions of the B-Side "Understanding", which appears on their 1966 album Extra Extra. The hard rock band UFO covered the song as a bonus track on their album No Heavy Petting. The punk band X also covered the song on their 1985 album Ain't Love Grand!.
